Vocoder MFX without external input
« on: September 25, 2019, 06:23:10 am »
I already asked in the topic Tutorial 10-band vocoder (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login) if it was possible to use the vocoder MFX without using external input as the carrier wave and we couldnt figure it out yet.

Still wanted to use the Vocoder on an AUX channel and after looking at the mixer block diagram of the MV it makes total sense :)

1. In the FX select the Vocoder, and set routing to AUX1.
2. Insert a nice vocal on an audio track, and route that to AUX1, but pan it all the way to the left.
3. Create an instrument (strings work well), and route that instrument to AUX1, but pan it all the way to the right. This will act as the carrier wave for the vocoder.
4. Enjoy  8)

Very cool, thanks!  Makes it a little easier to set that up.

I bet that if you could make some changes to the vocoder FX it could act as a decent sidechain Hangnef, since it has two inputs and envelope followers.

adding to my original post...

You don't to need use an audio track as source and an instrument as carrier wave. Just setup the routing to the AUX and pan the output on those channels to be either the sound source (left panning) or the carrier wave(right panning). E.g. you could use a beat on the audio channel as carrier wave, to manipulate the sound of an instrument track.

Great idea, I've added it to the item I have already about sidechaining compression.
