I dont know what installing in a desktop would do though, maybe it messes up the file system...you might need a 2nd opinion on that. using the mv hdd as an usb external hdd should be fine imo. although i dont know for sure.  ::) maybe someone can confirm.

it depends on what you want to do...if you want to load up a lot of sounds to the mv you could remove the hdd put it in a external hdd if you have one laying around (open it up remove the existing hdd) or install it into a desktop.

its a pretty shitty workaround...but the hdd of the mv is easily accessible. if you also want to export mixdowns and put samples in that way it becomes increasingly shitty  :-\ but to build a sound library imo its doable.

just reconnecting a couple times didnt work? mine has hickups with usb connect also and like I said just bluntly reconnecting does the trick. maybe blow out the usb port on the mv side with canned air? or use a swap with isopropyl alc to clean it?

MV-Modifications / Re: Painting the MV8800

id rather go with a vinyl custom. styleflip website provides that service although I have no experience doing business with them.

painting the mv in the right way with details must be hella expensive. or alot of work if you have the skills and materials.

I did play around with the idea to paint the removal sides...and get pads the same color. imo it would add some flavour to the look of the mv

Has anyone attempted to custom paint their MV themselves or send it to a professional?  I like this...

this sounds great! very interested.
from looking at some pics of the original, it seems like a fairly complicated little unit. i notice the original has surface mount mini SMD chips.

I just got an 8000 after I saw it in a pawn shop for a fair deal. I'm getting in to sampling and lo-fi stuff. My only experience with sampling is with a Zoom ST-224. I never have used my Korg DSS-1 because ...well it looks like a PITA to sample on. Easier as a synth. The ST-224 sounds dope but its hard to sequence with. I hope to stumble upon a Boss SP series in the future. Those look sweet.

Im glad to see an active user base for these MVs. I hope to learn and listen to the stuff you guys do with it.The Zoom ST forum is dust and tumbleweeds.

just for the chronicle, still doing my researches but obviously not good enough ‘cause I m not yet aware of a compatible tested replacement for the switch, an ALPS SKECAFA010 named as Roland part no.00894645 (also used in the Fantom S88, X6).
any suggestion?
thanks
